Defekty is made from three boxes of slides I found labeled 'defekty,' Polish for mistakes. The defect is a camera strap blocking each view of these typical vacation shots, adding a new rhythm of abstraction and poignancy to this trek. While at first it seemed an obstruction, the crescent moon of the camera strap became a device for opening something else up in these otherwise mundane images, rescuing them from patronizing and shallow nostalgia.
